TY CALENDAR OF EVENTS 2022 – 2023

AUGUST

Tuesday 30th: TY induction (9:00 – 12:40)

SEPTEMBER

Tuesday 6th: TY Oak will go on walk to Clashganny. (Rescheduled due to weather)

Thursday 8th: TY Elm will go on walk to Clashganny. (Rescheduled due to weather)

Friday 9th: TY Pine will go on walk to Clashganny. (Rescheduled due to weather)

Thursday 15th: Day Trip to Dunmore East Outdoor Education Centre. (9:00 – 16:30).

Monday 19th: TY Oak will go on walk to Clashganny.

Wednesday 21st: John O’Shea, Social Entrepreneurship. John will share his motivational stories with students, in the hope of inspiring another generation to take up the challenge of alleviating the suffering of the forgotten on our planet. TY Pine 9:00 - 9:55, TY Elm 10:05 - 11:00, TY Oak 11:20 - 12:15. Teachers attend workshop scheduled in Room 6. (Rescheduled due to Ploughing)

Thursday 22nd: TY Elm will go on walk to Clashganny.

Friday 23rd: TY Pine will go on walk to Clashganny.

Starting the week of the 26th and running for 5 weeks: GAA Foundation course. Carlow GAA will run this optional course during scheduled PE class. You can apply for selection.

Tuesday 27th: TY Film Group will be the Freshfilm Festival guest judges participating in "You Judge It" film heats.

28th September - 1st October 2022: School Tour to Barcelona – last year’s TY’s.

OCTOBER

Monday 17th: Wake up Program (Stephen Dargan) Full day = TY Oak (Room 8)

Tuesday 18th: Wake up Program (Stephen Dargan) Full day = TY Pine (Room 8)

Thursday 20th: Wake up Program (Stephen Dargan) Full day = TY Elm (Room 8)

Monday 24th: Changeover for Architectural Technology/ Psychology/ Agricultural Science/ Home Economics/ Fashion/ Chemistry/ Engineering/ Physics/ Music/ History/ Geography/ Computer Studies/ Construction Studies/ Biology/ Film/ Design & Communication Graphics.

Tuesday 25th: Seo Bothar. TY Elm and half of TY Oak 9:00 - 11:00; Half of TY Oak and TY Pine 11:20 - 1:20. Location Room 26/27. Teachers attend workshop.

Thursday 27th: Bogathon is a mud run obstacle course. It is great way for students to get out and have some fun while working on their team building skills. - Cancelled

Friday 28th: 11 TY’s will participate in the Difference day, in Saplings Special School, Goresbridge, Co. Kilkenny.

Basketball blitz organised by TY Students for remaining TY’s on Friday afternoon.

NOVEMBER

Thursday 3rd: Second payment of €100 due for School Tour to Italy.

Monday 7th: TY Law Programme pilot for schools (Law Society) will commence during Work Placement class.

Tuesday 8th: Bank of Ireland zoom meeting during Mr Healy’s class.

Friday 11th: Rhythmriot Music will provide a Brazilian Drumming workshop. TY Elm 9:40 - 11:00; TY Oak 11:20 - 12:40; TY Pine 2:00 - 3:20. Teachers attend workshop scheduled in Room 30.

Monday 14th: JCT Training Day.

Monday 14th – Friday 18th: Language week. (date rescheduled)

Thursday 17th: Think Languages Day will be held in school. TY language teachers will accompany TY’s. (date rescheduled)

Monday 21st – Friday 2nd: TY Work placement

DECEMBER

Monday 5th: Changeover for Italian/ Chinese/ Coding/ Maths/ Gaelic Studies/ Artistic Performance/ Art Appreciation.

Tuesday 6th: An Tobar Nua, well-being and faith retreat in school for TY Elm 9:30-3:30. Rescheduled to 21/1/22.

Thursday 8th: An Tobar Nua, well-being and faith retreat in school for TY Oak 9:30-3:30.

Friday 9th: An Tobar Nua, well-being and faith retreat in school for TY Pine 9:30-3:30.

Monday 12th: Alpacaexperience meet, greet and feed alpacas. Followed by Christmas shopping in Dundrum shopping centre.

Tuesday 13th: Climate Change and Trees workshop with Self Help Africa. TY Pine 9:00 - 10:20, TY Elm 10:20 - 12:00, TY Oak 12:00 – 1:20. Teachers attend workshop scheduled in Room 6.

Thursday 15th: Final payment of €300 due for School Tour to Italy.

JANUARY

Monday 9th: The Big Idea creative education programme starts and runs until the week on Monday 15th May. It will involve interactive workshops led by experts hosted by partner schools, which are fun and engaging. Students will use creative thinking to solve problems in a collaborative format.

Press Pass Program will run from January to April. It will still include student journalism competition and provide free resources such as student workbooks, and access to newspapers and news websites.

Thursday 12th: Close Encounters Self Defence and Security Program. Helps to counter against unexpected incidents, boosts confidence, enables keep fit and imparts useful skills. TY Pine and half of TY Elm.

Monday 16th: Young Irish Film Makers. (Ms Mooney)

Tuesday 17th: JCT training day.

Thursday 19th: Young Irish Film Makers. (Ms Mooney)

Thursday 26th: Go Quest (Carrickmines) is the best LIVE scoring, fully automated, indoor challenge adventure.

FEBRUARY

Thursday 2nd: Celebration of Chinese New Year

Monday 6th: Bank holiday (First Aid Training rescheduled)

Tuesday 7th – Thursday 9th: Carlow Garda Transition Year Work Experience Programme (4 TY students only).

Tuesday 7th: The Road Safety Authority will be visiting the school with their Shuttle Bus. This bus opens up into a mobile classroom and will give a 40-minute presentation along with Virtual Reality headsets.

Wednesday 8th: As part of Amber Flag week there will be an AEN (additional educational needs) Workshop: TY Elm 11:20 -12:00; TY Pine 12:00 – 12:40; TY Oak 12:40 - 1:20 (Ms Kavanagh/ Ms Conway)

Thursday 9th February: First Aid Training (rescheduled)

Starting the week of the 20th and running for 3 weeks: GAA Foundation course. Carlow GAA will run a second optional course on Thursday afternoons and some Fridays. TY’s apply for selection.

Thursday 23rd: Close Encounters Self Defence and Security Program. Helps to counter against unexpected incidents, boosts confidence, enables keep fit and imparts useful skills.

Tuesday 28th: I Wish 2023 Hybrid event will have live speakers, live interactive exhibitions and a live audience of 3,000 students. It will be streamed virtually to a global reach in excess of 15,000 students direct from Dublin’s RDS. (9:00 – 11:00)

MARCH

Tuesday 7th: The Student Enterprise County Final will take place in the Woodford Dolmen Hotel, Carlow.

Friday 31st: TY’s are one of over 40 groups that has been selected to go forward to the Certified Irish Angus Schools Competition Exhibition in Croke Park. Judges will select the final five groups that will receive the Angus calves at the National Ploughing Championships in September 2023 based on the combined performance by the group at the interview and at this event.

APRIL

Monday 24th: River canoeing. TY Elm and half of TY Oak (PE Dept.)

Thursday 27th: River canoeing. TY Pine and half of TY Oak (PE Dept.)

MAY

Thursday 4th: TY’s will organise a camogie/ hurling blitz for 4th/ 5th/ 6th class students of our feeder schools.

Wednesday 10th: TY reports to be completed on VS ware.
