Green-Schools at Borris Vocational School

Green Schools is an organisation within Borris Vocational School that works to make the school a more environmentally conscious place. Promoting long-term, whole school action for the environment the Green Schools team is led by Ms. Bernie Atkinson and a strong student team across all year groups in the school.

The team work together on issues such as:

· litter and waste,

· energy,

· water conservation and are currently working on earning their Travel Flag.

They have participated in interactive workshops for their members and host events like Green Day that aim to bring awareness to environmental issues within the schools. They also host competitions within the school that aim to further help students conduct their school life in a more ecofriendly manner.

Twice a year a battery collection takes place in which each class collects batteries to be collected by WEEE. A class league is set up within the school where prizes are awarded to classes which bring the most batteries in. Last year a bike rack was installed in the school to encourage more students to cycle to school and will be undertaking a workshop in which they will learn the correct way to ride a bike. They hope to organise a 5k walk/cycle/ run event to raise awareness on cleaner ways to travel to school and to raise money for a local charity this academic year.
